Things to know about Cumberland
The beginnings of this company date back to 1939 when Vasilios and Aphrodite Haseotes bought a farm with a single cow in Cumberland, Rhode Island.
Things didn’t stay that way, and over time, it became the largest dairy farm in the area.
Cumberland Farms opened a dairy store in Bellingham, Massachusetts, in 1958 and the first convenience store in the northeastern United States in 1962.
Cumberland Farms gas station
In 1970, Cumberland Farms added, for the first time, a gas station to one of its stores, and from what it seems, it was a very inspired decision because it became one of the big players in this market.
When major gasoline dealers abandoned their gas stations after the Arab oil embargo of 1973-1974, Cumberland Farms rushed to find locations in the northeastern United States and Florida, even though the company itself had been severely affected by the interruption of the supply of gasoline.
Later, in 1985 Cumberland Farms acquired 550 Gulf and Chevron service stations and related assets in ten states in the northeastern United States for $250 million.
The transaction also included 25 sales terminals and contracts to supply gasoline to approximately 1,700 Gulf dealers and 2,000 employee-operated stations, making the company the largest independent gasoline seller in the United States.
So it seems that here they know very well how to bring a business to the brink of success, right?
Time for a change
Initially, when founded, Cumberland Farms was recognized for the colors orange and navy blue.
However, you know what they say, sometimes a change is really needed.
Therefore, in 2009 it appeared in front of its clients with a new logo and different colors (navy blue and green).
This logo change marked, among other things, the beginning of the transformation of Cumberland Farms stores from the more old-fashioned, say, new AIM stores, which now include many fresh food items such as pizza, chicken sandwiches, and more.
Also, at Cumberland Farms, you will find for sale a wide range of food products, candies, snacks and cold drinks, which it calls “The Chill Zone”, along with chips, pastries, candies and coffee with the Cumberland Farms brand, And so on.
